About
My work at present focuses on the dancehall movement and folk dance in Jamaica. This study touches on themes of identity, tradition, reception and the body.
I am also interested in how the change of space alters the meanings deducted from movement. For instance afro-caribbean rituals adapted to stage for nation building. And the parallels of street dance, specifically dancehall that infiltrates new spaces.
I also look at the use of dance in ritual, principally the Revival movement in Jamaica. In particular the use of dance to communicate with invisible forces for healing and creating changes in participants perceived reality.
